Since the earthquake hit Sichuan Province, Chinese people have been proactively offering helps in terms of monetary and blood donation. Beijing blood bank was fully filled by Wednesday evening. Today’s Media Spin, we look into some of the touching actions done by ordinary people like you and me.

Zhejiang Online reports that hundreds of taxi drivers in Chengdu have voluntarily joining the rescue work. Knowing that the rescue team has no enough power to transfer the injured, the taxi drivers take the initiative to help. Regardless of the possible danger, they drive to and fro between the quake-hit areas and the city in order to send the injured for better medical care.

On Beijing Morning Post, we read that a kindergarten teacher Yu Wanrong has sacrificed herself in order to save a student. The principal recalled in tears that, the late teacher used her back to support the falling cement structure with a kid in her arm. The principal cried, “The kid is saved, but Teacher Yu left us forever.”

An opinion in China Youth Daily stresses that the value of lives is higher than everything. It is not yet the time for interrogation and criticism. Besides donating money and blood, everyone must learn the ways to protect themselves during emergencies. There are also few things that we should not do in order to help. For example, do not make unnecessary calls to the quake-hit areas to lessen the communication burden. And, avoid traveling to quake affected areas to save transportation resources. Last but not least, keep calm and rational, do not believe or spread rumors.
